Ashley Pennell, Doctoral Candidate, Hired as Faculty in RESE

Beginning in the Fall 2020 semester, current doctoral candidate Ashley Pennell (she/her/hers) will join the faculty in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University as an Assistant Professor of Reading Education in the Department of Reading Education and Special Education (RESE).

"When I began my doctoral program five years ago (in 2015), I knew that I wanted to pursue a faculty position at a university where both teaching and research were valued. I feel fortunate to be continuing my professional journey in the place where I developed a deep appreciation for teaching children to read and write. In this new role, I look forward to building on my dissertation research, embarking on new research endeavors, and continuing to work with pre-service and in-service teachers. Through both my scholarship and teaching, I strive to prepare teachers to create equitable learning environments where all students can become readers and writers." -Ashley Pennell
