Effective Monday, April 2, 2012, the Surry Community College Department of Distance Education and the Department of IT/Computer Services will reorganize into one department -- Technology Services.  This newly formed department will be headed by Dr. Candace Holder, who will serve as Vice President of Technology Services. 

David Stegall (Cohort 16) and Jayme Linton (Lenoir-Rhyne University) recently published an article in Kappan magazine entitled "Teachers in the Lead:  A District's Approach to Shared Leadership."

Three doctoral students from the Forsyth Tech cohort were presenters at the Southeastern Association of Educational Studies (SEAES) 16th Annual Conference held February 24-25th. Congratulations to Brooksie Broome!  Brooksie is the 2012 recipient of the Appalachian State Univeristy Graduate School's Diversity Scholarship.  Brooksie is a member of the First Forsyth Cohort. 

Congratulations to Wayne Matthews, Cohort 17, who received the Yadkin County Chamber of Commerce Chairman's Award at the chamber's annual banquet on January 24 for his "many contributions in raising the quality of life for all of Yadkin County and the Yadkin Valley" (plaque inscription).

Tina Chestnut, a McMichael High School assistant principal, was chosen as the 2012-2013 RCS Assistant Principal of the Year. She began her career in education with Guilford County Schools in 1996 as a high school math/science teacher. In 1998, she returned home to Rockingham County and taught math/science at Reidsville Middle. In 2007, she transferred to Rockingham County Middle as a math teacher. Ms. Chestnut accepted an assistant principal position at McMichael High School in 2009.
