A new special issue of Impacting Education focused on alternative dissertations in EdD programs recently released, co-edited by Dr. Vachel Miller, Director of the Doctoral Program, and Dr. Star Brown, Dissertation Coach. In their co-authored introduction to the issue, they frame the purpose and potential of alternative dissertation formats, encouraging readers to think expansively and critically about what a dissertation can be.The issue also features contributions from members of the App State academic community:
“Why CPED Needs a Philosophy in Practice” – co-authored by Dr. Matthew Thomas-Reid and Dr. P.J. Nelsen from the Department of Leadership & Educational Studies.
“Dangerous Dissertations: Alternative Approaches to Dissertation Inquiry” – co-authored by Dr. Star Brown and Dr. Nikki Proctor, a recent EdD graduate.
“These pieces reflect the depth, creativity, and real-world relevance that alternative dissertations can offer,” said the editors.
To continue the conversation, the Doctoral Program will host a professional development session this fall, featuring contributors to the special issue and opportunities for open discussion.
