Michelle Derouin, a current doctoral student, attended the 2025 North Carolina Association of Family and Consumer Sciences (NCAFCS) Conference in Wrightsville Beach. Last November, Derouin submitted a research abstract for anonymous peer review, which was successfully accepted for presentation at the conference.
At the event, Derouin led a workshop for North Carolina teachers and participated in the Higher Education Research Poster Presentations session, presenting alongside fellow scholars from ECU, Meredith College, and NC A&T. Her research poster, titled Resilient Human Experience: Oral Histories and Archival Research in North Carolina Family and Consumer Sciences, received outstanding reviews.
Dr. Elizabeth Hopfer, the NCAFCS Research Committee Chair, encouraged Derouin to submit her research for consideration at the 2026 AAFCS National Conference, recognizing the importance and quality of her work.
In addition to her research accomplishments, Derouin was nominated by her peers and awarded the 2025 NC Teacher of the Year for Family and Consumer Sciences. As the North Carolina representative, she will advance to compete for the national title next year.
Congratulations to Michelle Derouin on this well-deserved honor, and best of luck at the national level!
