Dr. Rebekkah Watkins, a 2023 graduate of Appalachian’s Doctorate in Educational Leadership program, joins UNC Asheville as an Academic Success Coach. This new position marks a transition between Dr. Watkins’ previous work as a K-12 teacher and a professional supporting TRIO Student Support Services (SSS), a federally funded program that aims to support first-generation, low-income students in a college setting.
While earning her Master’s degree at Appalachian, Dr. Watkins worked at the TRIO Student Success Center and Tutoring Center, supporting students with software fluency and outreach opportunities. As an EdD student, Dr. Watkins researched how technology and leadership opportunities foster youth advocacy. Dr. Watkins says of her new job that she “can’t wait to return to the TRIO world,” continuing a legacy of student success and leadership.
