Choose Your Concentration

Below are the concentrations available for the 2027 cohorts:

Educational Administration

This dual degree program provides coursework for the Education Specialist (EdS) degree in School Administration, with eligibility for the Superintendent Licensure (Specialist Level), followed by coursework and dissertation research leading to the doctoral degree (EdD), with eligibility for licensure upgrade to Doctoral level. NC principal licensure is required at the time of application.

Higher Education

Intended for change-oriented professionals working in 4-year, 2-year, and university settings.

Instructional Technology Leadership

Focuses on instructional uses of technology in K-12 and higher education.
*Includes graduate certificate in Instructional Technology Leadership.

Interdisciplinary Studies

Intended for professionals with an earned EdS degree from Appalachian or cross-disciplinary interests in educational leadership, inquiry, and innovative practice.

Literacy in Exceptionalities

The Literacy in Exceptionalities concentration is supported by the Department of Child Development,
Literacy, and Special Education. This department offers courses focusing on all facets of reading,
writing, language arts, and specific areas of special education.
