Dr. Kimberly Nava Eggett, 2022 graduate of the Ed.D. Program with a concentration in Instructional Technology, joins UNC Asheville Department of Education as the new Visiting Assistant Professor. Dr. Nava Eggett’s career spans instructional roles from an elementary school teacher to adjunct professor. Her focus on inclusivity and equity in the classroom can be traced back to her time as an Ed.D. student at App State, where she completed the Program's first co-dissertation on the use of instructional technology and asset-based pedagogy. This dissertation was co-authored with alumna Dr. Rebecca Burry and the committee was chaired by Dr. Patrick O'Shea, along with committee members Dr. Amy Washburn, Dr. Tracie Salinas, and Dr. JuanEs Ramirez.
“In this role, I will have the opportunity to teach full time again, in the very department that I graduated from in 2005. I'm looking forward to teaching the next generation of K-12 educators with some amazing colleagues," Dr. Nava Eggett shared on LinkedIn.
Additionally, Dr. Nava Eggett recently authored a chapter in the newly released reading-freedom book, Battle of the Bans. Hers is the second chapter titled, “Stolen Mirrors, Tinted Windows, and Broken Sliding Glass Doors: When Book Bans Limit How We See Ourselves and Others,” spotlighting the challenges and impacts of book bans from a public librarian’s perspective.
Dr. Nava Eggett is a two-time gradaute of Appalachian State—a Doctorate in Educational Leadership and a Master’s in Media, Technology, and Learning Design. She also has a BS in Spanish and K-5 Education from UNC Asheville.
